Hoodline crunched the numbers to find the most popular thrift stores in San Antonio, using both Yelp data and our own secret sauce to produce a ranked list of the best spots to venture next time you're looking to do some savvy shopping.
1. Boysville Auxiliary Thrift Shop
Topping the list is Boysville Auxiliary Thrift Shop. Located at 307 W. Olmos Drive, it's the highest-rated thrift store in San Antonio, boasting four stars out of 50 reviews on Yelp.
It sells a wide selection of new and used items across a range of categories, including clothing, collectibles, jewelry, furniture, antiques and more. In business for over 50 years, all proceeds go to benefit the boys and girls of the Boysville children's home.
Yelper Sandra V., who reviewed it on July 27, wrote, "Looking for a way to spend an afternoon? If you have some time and want to search for some gems, this is a great place to stop by! ... The store is organized and clean. They have sales sometimes and the staff is friendly. It's a fun shopping experience, and you will likely find something that is in gently used condition and at a great price."
2. Thrift Town
Next up is Thrift Town, situated at 2864 Thousand Oaks Drive. With four stars out of 30 reviews on Yelp, the thrift store has proven to be a local favorite. It is part of a chain with locations in Texas, California and New Mexico.
The store sells used items that include furniture, clothing, children's clothing, electronics, jewelry, cookware, decor, books and more.
Yelper Yunni H. said, "I would say this is probably the cleanest thrift store I have been to. I was surprised to hear that they clean and sanitize all the items they receive. You would assume they would be pricey for the extra effort they make in cleaning their items, but surprisingly they are affordable."
3. Goodwill
Downtown's Goodwill, located at 406 W. Commerce St., is another top choice, with Yelpers giving the thrift store four stars out of 10 reviews. The nonprofit, with stores around the country, provides training, employment and other services for people with disabilities or other disadvantages.
The store primarily carries used clothing, organized by age, gender and the color of the garment. Besides clothes, you can find home goods, including decor, cookware and more.
Yelp reviewer Tricia W. wrote, "This is a clean, well-kept store with friendly staff. More than half of the store is dedicated to clothing (coordinated by gender and color) with the remainder of the store split between home goods and a cafe."
