Topping the list is Panchos and Gringos. Located at 900 Nolan St. in Dignowity Hill, the deli and breakfast spot is the highest-rated diner in San Antonio, boasting 4.5 stars out of 391 reviews on Yelp.

The spot has a mix of Mexican and American fare. For breakfast, you'll see dishes like the Mexican-style eggs served with potatoes, beans and salsa, plus tortillas or bread, and the Kentucky Egg, a dish of two eggs, toast, home fries and sausage gravy.

Lunch includes the mole poblano with grilled chicken thighs and the meatloaf  made with baked Angus beef wrapped in bacon, served with mashed potatoes and gravy alongside veggies.

Yelper El D. wrote, "Stopped by for breakfast and those chilaquiles with lamb leg had a crunchy, cheesy balance. The lamb was juicy and seasoned properly. The French toast special with berries was a big plate, which ended the meal well by sharing it among three of us."

2. Max & Louie's New York Diner

Next up is Max & Louie's New York Diner, situated at 226 W. Bitters Road, Suite 126. With four stars out of 530 reviews on Yelp, the traditional American spot has proven to be a local favorite.

The diner serves both breakfast and lunch/dinner all day long, with dishes that include the Long Island Egg Sandwich (two eggs any style with bacon and cheese on a kaiser roll or bagel), the Rachel sandwich (hot pastrami, corned beef or turkey with slaw, Swiss cheese and Thousand Island dressing on rye) and the Max & Louie burger (half pound of Angus, hot pastrami, sauerkraut, Swiss cheese and Thousand Island dressing on rye or brioche). Judi S., who visited the eatery on Aug. 8, wrote, "This place was awesome! It is bright and cool and cheerful with upbeat music, and the food was absolutely wonderful! We tried the pancakes with house syrup and they were fluffy and very flavorful. Share them though, because they are enormous."
