A new Japanese and Latin American fusion spot has made its debut in the neighborhood. Called Susheria, the fresh addition is located at 3101 K St. NW in Georgetown.

Formerly Maté Lounge, the new venture is from that sushi bar's owner, local restaurateur Mauricio Fraga-Rosenfeld (Yaku, Agua-Ardiente, Guarapo). He wanted the new place to feel less like a nightclub and more like a restaurant, he told Eater Washington D.C., and he calls the resulting decor of chandeliers and velvet seating "casual glam."

At the core of the menu is the mix of Peruvian and Japanese cuisines known as Nikkei. The fusion is evident in maki combos like white fish, cancha corn, sweet potato and leche de tigre sauce, or strip steak with red pepper and chimichurri. There are also Japanese rice bowls that feature Peruvian lomo saltado or chile-and-honey chicken.

Pair your meal with handcrafted cocktails or sake.

With a 4.5-star rating out of three reviews on Yelp so far, the new restaurant seems to be a welcome addition to the neighborhood.

Krysta G., who reviewed Susheria on Oct. 5, wrote, "The space was beautiful and comfortable with gorgeous chandeliers throughout. Everything we ordered was delicious and gorgeously presented. The cocktails were also quite tasty and perfectly balanced."

Yelper Mana N. added, “The ambiance: It's sophisticated and romantic! Recently remodeled and added gorgeous chandeliers, I'm pretty sure it will soon be a hot spot for young professionals. And the food, in short, is to die for.”

Head on over to check it out: Susheria is open from 4 p.m.–12:30 a.m. on Monday-Thursday and 4 p.m.–1:30 a.m. on Friday-Sunday.
