In search of a new favorite Peruvian spot?
Hoodline crunched the numbers to find the best affordable Peruvian restaurants around Washington, using both Yelp data and our own secret sauce to produce a ranked list of where to venture next time you're on the hunt.
1. Huacatay Peruvian Chicken

Topping the list is Huacatay Peruvian Chicken. With an exposed brick wall and baskets for lampshades, Huacatay (the name comes from a pungent herb) is a cozy spot for pollo a la brasa, the famous Peruvian rotisserie chicken. It comes in quarter, half or whole birds, and is served with pink, yellow, green or white mayonnaise-based sauce.
Located at 2314 Fourth St. NE in Brentwood, it is the highest-rated low-priced Peruvian restaurant in Washington, boasting 4.5 stars out of 91 reviews on Yelp.
2. El Fuego

Next up is El Fuego, a food truck that serves spots like Farragut Square, L'Enfant Plaza and Arlington, as well as special events. It's known for its salchipapa, ceviche and lomo saltado, the stir-fry with tender beef tenderloin, red onions, plum tomatoes and hot peppers. Just look for the converted fire truck, after which it's named. With 4.5 stars out of 79 reviews on Yelp, it has proven to be a local favorite for those looking for a cheap option.
3. District Rico

Capitol Hill's District Rico, located at 91 H St., is another top choice, with Yelpers giving it four stars out of 211 reviews. In addition to rotisserie chicken, it's got subs, burritos and salads, plus entrees like pollo soltado and bistek a lo pobre, or marinated steak topped with an over-easy egg. There's also a long list of sides, including french fries, black beans, steamed veggies and onion salad.
4. El Pollo Sabroso

Next, El Pollo Sabroso in Mount Pleasant is another affordable go-to, with four stars out of 80 Yelp reviews. The fast-food-style menu is focused on chicken, whether served alone or in a sandwich. There are also pupusas, tacos and fried plantains. Many Yelpers swear by the green sauce. Head over to 3153 Mt. Pleasant St. NW to see for yourself.
5. Super Pollo Charcoal Chicken

Finally, over in Dupont Circle, check out Super Pollo Charcoal Chicken, which has earned four stars out of 25 reviews on Yelp. Charcoal chicken, lomo saltado, ceviche — all the Peruvian hits are here. The sides are all on display behind glass, and include fried rice, black beans, fried plantains, spinach and potatoes, and much more. Alternatively, go Middle Eastern by grabbing a kebab, whether chicken, lamb, beef or chapali. Dig in by heading over to 1327 Connecticut Ave. NW.
