Topping the list is Comics Dungeon. It has a huge and well-organized selection of new comics and back issues. There are also toys, T-shirts and other gear. And customers rave about the subscription service, which not only ensures you get what you're looking for as they're published, but provides a discount on all merchandise in the store.

Located at 319 N.E. 45th St. (between North Latona and North Fourth avenues) in Wallingford, it is the highest-rated comic book store in Seattle, boasting 4.5 stars out of 51 reviews on Yelp.

2. The Dreaming

Next up is the University District's The Dreaming, situated at 5226 University Way NE (between 52nd and 55th streets). It has mostly new titles, with a smaller selection of back issues, including some rare items. The Dreaming also boasts a large selection of role playing and other tabletop games. It even hosts many gaming events each week. (You can find the calendar here.)

With 4.5 stars out of 46 reviews on Yelp, it has proven to be a local favorite.

3. Golden Age Collectables

Next, Pike Place Market's Golden Age Collectables, located on the fourth level, Suite 401, is another top choice, with Yelpers giving it four stars out of 106 reviews. It bills itself as "the world's oldest comic shop," having started in 1961. True or not, it does boast a solid selection of titles, with the latest and previous editions displayed helpfully together.

As the name suggests, though, this store goes well beyond comics to include collectibles, toys, posters and all kinds of pop culture kitsch.

4. Phoenix Comics and Games

Phoenix Comics and Games, is another much-loved go-to, with 4.5 stars out of 34 Yelp reviews. It offers an extensive library of comics and graphic novels, both big name and independent comics titles, signed copies and trade paperbacks. It also has board games, card games and RPGs, and hosts weekly game nights, with an emphasis on Magic: The Gathering. And, it's open late.

Head over to 113 Broadway East (between Olive and Denny ways) on Capitol Hill to see for yourself.

5. Fantagraphics Books

It's not just any comic book store, but a publisher of comics, graphic novels and cartoons, as well as an art gallery. Fans of its flagship comics title, "Love and Rockets," will especially appreciate a visit to this shop. You can find it at 1201 S. Vale St.
