Nothing beats pizza — and if you're in the mood to enjoy it in Washington, we've found a lineup of places that will excite your appetite. Here are the newest places to check out the next time you're in the mood for some pizza.

Nero

1323 Connecticut Ave. NW, Dupont Circle

Nero is a wine bar and international restaurant in the former Red Apron Burger Bar location.

Pizza options include classics like pepperoni, sausage and oregano, as well as gourmet versions like truffled mushroom, Parmesan and roasted garlic cream, or fig, cherry balsamic and prosciutto. There are also "international" combos, like the one with pork belly, mango, Thai basil and spicy tomato curry sauce.

That last one hints at the rest of the menu, which showcases both Italian and Indian cuisines. Look for burrata and shrimp arancini, for example, as well as tandoori chicken and samosas. There are dozens of wines — mostly Italian — available by the glass, and a large selection of craft beers on tap.

Yelpers are excited about Nero, which currently holds 4.5 stars out of three reviews on the site.

Brianna W., who reviewed it on Nov. 23, wrote, "We enjoyed drinks and some awesome music. Big shout out to the bartender who greeted us and served up nice drinks. There is an intimate, romantic seating area in the back for bigger groups and sit-down dinner."

Jenny D. noted, "The food is a combination of Italian and Indian, and while I like both on their own, it should be interesting to see how they are melded together once the full menu is created. There are several great beers on tap, and the happy hour prices are not bad."

Nero is open from 11 a.m.–2 a.m. on Sunday-Thursday and 11 a.m.–3 a.m. on Friday and Saturday.

Wiseguy Pizza

Wiseguy Pizza is now open in the Navy Yard. The expanding local mini-chain offers both whole pies and hot slices, made with thin crusts and stretchy mozzarella.

House specialty pizzas include the Indian-inspired masala sauce, marinated chicken, cilantro and jalapeño sauce combo, and a vegetarian option with green peppers, red onions, mushrooms, Kalamata olives and chili peppers.

In addition to pizza, there are a couple of salad options and garlic knots.

Wiseguy Pizza currently holds four stars out of 13 reviews on Yelp, indicating good reviews.

Yelper Toby F., who reviewed the pizza shop on Nov. 11, wrote, "Wiseguys is easily the best by-the-slice pizza in D.C. I read an article about the owner which talked about how he zigzagged the country to find every great New York City pizza joint and learn their methods. His work has paid off. They have unique varieties, and enough topping choices for every taste bud."

Yelper Rachel B. wrote, "Chicken paneer masala in pizza form? This slice had layers of flavor that Indian food lovers dream of. I'll never look at paneer the same way again."

Wiseguy Pizza is open from 10:30 a.m.–11 p.m. on Monday-Wednesday, 10:30 a.m.–midnight on Thursday, 10:30 a.m.–3 a.m. on Friday, 11 a.m.–3 a.m. on Saturday, and 11 a.m.–11 p.m. on Sunday.

Finally, DC Pizza & Kabob is now open at the junction of Florida Avenue and U Street, with late-night service. It replaces the defunct Meat in a Box with a similar menu of pizza and Middle Eastern fare.

Pizzas are mostly familiar, with meat lover, veggie and Hawaiian options. However, you'll also find curveballs, such as the Greek pizza (gyro meat, feta cheese and white sauce) and one with falafel topped with tahini or tzatziki sauce.

The menu continues with the likes of kebabs, gyros and falafel, plus desserts like baklava.

With a four-star Yelp rating out of 12 reviews, DC Pizza & Kabob has been getting positive attention.

Muhammad A. noted, "The best pizza I've ever tried in the DMV. Go for it if you're a pizza lover. Spicy boneless chicken kebab and lamb kebabs are the best. Owned and operated by a family."

DC Pizza & Kabob is open from 11 a.m.–2:45 a.m. on Sunday-Thursday and 11 a.m.–4:45 a.m. on Friday and Saturday.
