If you're looking for Milwaukee's best sandwich, consider that National Sandwich Day is just around the corner. Every year, on Nov. 3, sandwich lovers take a day to celebrate what happens when you put delicious things between two slices of bread.
To help get you on the bandwagon, we've rounded up Milwaukee's top sandwich joints, using both Yelp data and our own methodology.
And remember, there's no rule that says you can only eat one sandwich a day.
1. Comet Café
Topping the list is the Lower East Side's Comet Café, situated at 1947 N. Farwell Ave. According to Conde Nast Traveler, "This is comfort food done right." With four stars out of 1,006 reviews on Yelp, the breakfast and lunch spot, which offers salads and sandwiches, has proven to be a local favorite.
When it comes to sandwiches, this place means business and offers options like the Turkenstein, Charlie (tuna) melt, the monstrous bacon-wrapped meatloaf and classic grilled cheese. View the full menu here.
2. La Masa Empanada Bar
Lower East Side's La Masa Empanada Bar, located at 1300 E. Brady St., is another top choice. Yelpers give the bar and eatery, which offers empanadas, sandwiches and more, 4.5 stars out of 280 reviews.
Yelpers can't get enough of the Argentinian beef, jamon y queso and spinach and cheese empanadas. Sandwiches include the grilled ribeye and the Stacked Miga with thinly sliced ham, Manchego cheese, green olive slices, hard-boiled egg and mayo.
3. Bavette
Bavette, a butcher that offers sandwiches and more in Historic Third Ward, is another much-loved go-to, with 4.5 stars out of 256 Yelp reviews. Head over to 330 E. Menomonee St. to see for yourself.
This haunt has sandwiches like the seared pork with ramp pesto and goat cheese piled high on a bun or a specialty burger with heirloom tomatoes, cheddar, roasted onions and green tomato bacon jam.
4. Boo Boo's Sandwiches
Then there's Boo Boo's Sandwiches, which has earned five stars out of 33 reviews on Yelp. You can find the restaurant at 405 S. Second St. in Walker's Point.
The menu features a variety of sandwiches like the Jamaican jerk pork with provolone cheese, smoked pork loin with jerk mayo and albacore tuna salad with capers and celery.
