A new diner and cocktail bar has opened up shop in the neighborhood. The newcomer to Walker's Point, called Don's Diner & Cocktails, is located at 1100 S. First St.
This old-school-style diner with a twist — courtesy of the Stand, Eat and Drink Hospitality Group — serves up boozy milkshakes, craft cocktails and shots. Comfort food includes a burger on brioche with foie truffle butter and French toast bake with toppings ranging from maple syrup to duck confit, cherries and creme fraiche.
The diner is named for World War II veteran and diner guy Don Gersonde, who happens to be the grandfather of SED's Aaron Gersonde, according to the restaurant's website.
With a five-star rating out of seven reviews on Yelp so far, the fresh addition is on its way to developing a local fan base.
Daniela C., who was among the first Yelpers to review the new spot on Nov. 7, wrote, "I ordered the omelet, and it was easily the best looking omelet I've ever seen — very light with chives and cheese on the inside. It was delicious!"
Yelper Mike L. added, “Amazing Cajun chicken and waffles. It's not available until 10 a.m., but we asked if the cooks could do it earlier and they did. It's a must try!”
Interested? Stop by to welcome the new business to the neighborhood. Don's Diner & Cocktails is open from 7 a.m.–10 p.m. on Sunday through Thursday and 7 a.m.–11 p.m. on Friday and Saturday.
