1. Honey Bee La Colmena

Topping the list is Honey Bee La Colmena. Located at 2443 Bagley St. in Hubbard-Richard, the grocery store and Mexican spot is the highest rated grocery store in Detroit, boasting 4.5 stars out of 199 reviews on Yelp.

Founded in 1956, this grocery store offers produce, meat and cheese offerings, including pre-made meals and a large selection of spices. Other specialties include Mexican candies and popular drinks like Jarritos and Jumex.

Yelper Maya C. wrote, "I often get their pre-marinated chili lime chicken and fajita chicken breasts. I am really attracted to their large variety of hot sauces and spices. These are items you just can't find in regular grocery stores."   

2. E & L Supermercado

Next up is Southwest Detroit's E & L Supermercado, situated at 6000 W. Vernor Highway With 4.5 stars out of 45 reviews on Yelp, the grocery store has proven to be a local favorite.

At E & L Supermercado, you'll find meat, produce, canned  goods, an in-store bakery and ready-made food, including tacos, quesadillas, nachos, burritos, wraps and desserts. 

Yelper Christine B. wrote, "They make homemade baked goods in both US and Mexican varieties. The bolillos are always fresh, along with a wide variety of other bread and sweets." 

3. Whole Foods Market - Detroit

Midtown's Whole Foods Market - Detroit, located at 115 Mack Ave., is another top choice, with Yelpers giving the grocery store chain got four stars out of 100 reviews.

This large grocery store chain offers a meat, cheese and seasonal and exotic produce section, along with fresh pizza, a full French bakery, juice and a serve-yourself bar. If you're shopping for a dinner party, look for its wine and beer offerings and its selection of flowers and plants. 

Yelper Margaret V. wrote, "This store is a little smaller than some others, but it is still full of organic produce, fresh meat and a selection of items to meet everyday needs. I really enjoyed the olive bar. They had a very nice selection of olives and antipasto items."
