1. Planes, Trains and Automobiles

This 1987 classic stars Steve Martin as a businessman desperate to make it home for Thanksgiving. Unfortunately, a big snowstorm is making it very difficult, as is John Candy’s annoyingly chipper salesman. The two become unlikely traveling companions as they navigate every form of transportation in existence.

Planes, Trains and Automobiles is available to stream on Hulu.

2. Free Birds

In this animated comedy, Reggie is a lucky turkey pardoned by the president who teams up with a wild turkey named Jake. They take a time machine back to the first Thanksgiving to make sure their kind never ends up on the menu. Owen Wilson, Woody Harrelson and Amy Poehler lend their voices.

Free Birds is available to stream on Hulu.

3. Addams Family Values

Leave it to the Addams family to put an eccentric twist on the traditional holiday. When Wednesday and Pugsley are sent to summer camp, they’re forced to take part in a Thanksgiving musical pageant. With a few changes to the script, Wednesday’s monologue as Pocahontas turns out to be a memorable one.

Addams Family Values is available to stream on Hulu.

4. Home for the Holidays

Thanksgiving family dinners don’t get much more awkward than the one Holly Hunter's character faces in this 1995 comedy, which is Jodie Foster’s directorial debut. Robert Downey Jr., Dylan McDermott and Anne Bancroft also star in this tale of holiday mishaps.

Home for the Holidays is available to rent or purchase on Amazon.

5. Pieces of April

Cooking a Thanksgiving feast is no joke, as Katie Holmes’ titular character learns. She’s invited her dysfunctional family, including her cancer-diagnosed mom (Patricia Clarkson), to her tiny apartment. But when her oven breaks, it’s a mad dash to prepare the meal in time.

Pieces of April is available to stream on Amazon Prime.

6. Jim Henson’s Turkey Hollow

This 2015 family film, which occurs over the Thanksgiving holiday, centers on two kids who visit their eccentric aunt for the big feast. They decide to find a monster of local legend called the Howling Hoodoo, but stumble into an illegal turkey scheme that endangers their aunt’s farm.
