A new Latin American and Caribbean spot has opened up shop in the neighborhood. Called Sabor Tropical Restaurant and Lounge, the fresh addition is located at 2258 S. Kinnickinnic Ave.
On the menu, expect to find a wide selection of starters (turnovers, crab cakes and wings), chicken and steak entrées, hamburgers and specialty sandwiches. Look for el jibarito stuffed with green plantains, skirt steak and grilled onions topped with a tangy aioli. Pair dishes with a cocktail or glass of wine.
Satisfy your sweet tooth with the Argentinian chocolate waffler cookie or the pastel borracho, a mini bundt butter cake with dark rum sauce, chocolate or vanilla ice cream and drizzled with caramel and hot fudge.
With a four-star rating out of seven reviews on Yelp so far, the new arrival has gotten a good response.
Sven B., who was among the first Yelpers to review the new spot on Nov. 18, wrote, "I had the stuffed avocado with garlic shrimp and arroz con gandules. It was light, but filling. The appetizers were also very good."
Yelper Rene T. added, “I ordered the pernil, a slow roasted pork and a side of mofongo, a fried plantain dish. It was outstanding. I have eaten Puerto Rican food most of my life and the food was authentic and tasty."
