Hoodline crunched the numbers to find the best affordable Mexican restaurants around Stockton, using both Yelp data and our own secret sauce to produce a ranked list of the best spots to fill the bill.
1. El Frutal
Topping the list is El Frutal. Located at 1101 E. March Lane in Tam O'Shanter, the Mexican spot, which offers ice cream and frozen yogurt and desserts, is the highest rated affordable Mexican restaurant in Stockton, boasting 4.5 stars out of 120 reviews on Yelp.
The menu keeps it simple with tacos, burritos, quesadillas and tortas. The dessert menu, other the hand, is the opposite. El Furtal serves homemade ice cream in unique flavors like mango, crepes, which come fillings and toppers such as strawberries, bananas, Nutella and whipped cream and churro doughnuts.
Yelper Gina G., wrote, "The food, drinks, desserts and service are very good. I'm going to keep coming here until I try everything on the menu! My favorite is the Asada Vampiro Tostadas with a large Cucumber Lime Drink."
2. Tepa Taqueria
Next up is Tepa Taqueria, situated at 1205 W. March Lane With four stars out of 287 reviews on Yelp, the Mexican spot has proven to be a local favorite for those looking for an inexpensive option.
Quick and easy, Tepa Taqueria keeps customers happy and full with a selection that includes breakfast items, which are available all day, carne asada, burritos, tacos, shrimp cocktail and enchiladas that all come with rice and beans.
"The food was very delicious and came out really quickly," Yelper Daniel E. said. "The service was nice and the restaurant was clean. They had a great salsa bar and a nice selection of soda. I definitely recommend eating here."
3. Irma's Place Restaurant
Downtown Stockton's Irma's Place Restaurant, located at 524 E. Weber Ave., is another top choice, with Yelpers giving the low-priced Mexican spot 4.5 stars out of 69 reviews.
It serves authentic Mexican breakfast dishes as well as traditional fare. There are nopales con huevos, chilaquiles and machaca, all served with rice, beans and tortillas. Traditional meals include a Denver omelette, pancakes and sides include hash browns, bacon and sausage. For lunch, look for tacos, burritos and fajitas.

4. Rubio's Coastal Grill

With an array of taco and burrito options, Rubio's Coastal Grill has developed into a local favorite. It also has salads, bowls, quesadillas, nachos and sides and desserts. Stop by on Tuesday after 2 p.m. to take advantage of Taco Tuesday, which includes either a fish taco and a beer for $5 or $1.50 fish tacos.

5. El Senor Frog's
Check out El Senor Frog's, which has earned four stars out of 184 reviews on Yelp. Dig in at the Mexican spot by heading over to 7217 Pacific Ave.
The menu at El Senor Frog's is extensive and complete with lunch specials, dinner options, combo plates and special combinations. At lunch, try the flautas, with chicken, beef or pork while the chimichanga dinner comes with two chicken or beef burritos deep fried and served with guacamole and sour cream. To wash it all down, the location has margaritas, wine and domestic and Mexican beer.
