If you're looking for diverse food and beauty and wellness services—all in one place—look no further than this new spot. Located at 3536 W. Fond Du Lac Ave. in Roosevelt Grove, the fresh addition is called Sherman Phoenix.
Located inside the BMO Harris Bank building, which was burned during unrest in 2016 following a police shooting, it was designed to be a "catalyst for unity." The former bank building has become Sherman Phoenix, a high-end space that houses 29 small businesses-of-color offering food and services as diverse as their owners, according to its website.
You'll find eateries like family-owned pizza joint Sauce and Spice, the Next Level Vegans offering homecooked vegan dishes and Shindig Coffee, plus Silver Talisman, a shop with one-of-a-kind jewelry from local designers, and Embody Yoga run by Joanna Brooks, a local yogi. Check out the complete listing of businesses here.
With a five-star rating out of four reviews on Yelp so far, Sherman Phoenix has already made a good impression.
Amber Z., who was among the first Yelpers to review the new spot on Dec. 15, wrote, "Love, love, love this place! I tried the turmeric and ginger apple shot and the apple pineapple juice from Shindig Coffee—both were tasty. I also tried the pepperoni and jalapeño pizza from Sauce and Spice. It was yummy!"
Yelper Alice W. added, “What a wonderful space and concept! The vegan spot was open, and we tried the avocado BLT and greens. I am not vegan, but it turned out to be so delicious! The greens were tender and well-seasoned. And the fake bacon tastes a bit more like a salami, which I actually loved.”
It is open 7 a.m.–8 p.m. Monday-Saturday and 8 a.m.–8 p.m. on Sunday.
