Crime incidents in Gastonia saw an overall decrease last week, after a previous rise, according to data from SpotCrime, which collects data from police agencies and validated sources. Incidents fell to 137 for the week of December 10, down from 160 the week before.

Assault and vandalism led the decrease in crime incidents. Assault fell to 23 incidents last week, from 37 the week before. Vandalism went from 14 to seven.

There was one reported arson last week. That represents a steady state from the previous week. There were also five incidents of burglary.

There were 11 reports of "other" crimes, an increase of four from the previous week. SpotCrime's broad "other" category includes a variety of offenses like fraud, trespassing, public disturbance, and traffic violations. SpotCrime data also indicates that 25 arrests were made last week, up from 22 arrests the week before.

Regarding day and time factors, Fridays, Saturdays and Sundays produced the most crime incidents last week. The largest decrease from the previous week occurred on Mondays, Tuesdays, and Wednesdays, while incidents on Saturdays and Sundays went up. Late afternoon, evening, and late morning saw the most crime last week.
