A new deli has opened its doors in the neighborhood. Located at 3357 Downing St. in Five Points, the newcomer is called Lou’s Italian Specialties.
The new Italian deli serves a variety of East Coast-style eats, including its chicken parm sandwich (breaded chicken cutlet, Lou's marinara and fresh mozzarella) and its signature sandwich The Louie (Genoa salami, capicola, cooked ham, provolone cheese, shaved iceberg lettuce, tomato and red onion topped with mayo, oil and vinegar). The menu also offers salads, soups and paninis.
With a 3.5-star rating out of 16 reviews on Yelp, the new deli is still finding its feet, but it's early days yet.
Matt P., who was among the first Yelpers to review the new spot on December 14, wrote, "Right off the bat: the best and only true East Coast-style chicken parm and chicken cutlet sandwiches in Denver. The bread from City Bakery is perfect. The cutlets are brined in the water used to make their fresh mozzarella (outstanding)."
And Mark W. wrote, "It will take a few weeks for this deli to run like a well-oiled machine, but today the service, friendliness and smells were amazing. The food, however, is the best!"
Intrigued? Lou’s Italian Specialties is open from 10 a.m.-7 p.m. Tuesday-Sunday. (It's closed on Mondays.)
