In search of a new favorite Greek spot?

Hoodline crunched the numbers to find the top Greek spots around Milwaukee, using both Yelp data and our own secret sauce to produce a ranked list of the best spots to fill the bill.

1. Oakland Gyros

Topping the list is Oakland Gyros. Located at 2867 N. Oakland Ave. in Cambridge Heights, it's the highest rated Greek restaurant in Milwaukee, boasting 4.5 stars out of 206 reviews on Yelp.

Burgers, hot dogs and fried appetizers are on the Greek-American menu at this spot. Menu items include the Greek salad, spinach pie, lamb shank and baklava. The gyro platter, which comes with fries, rice or salad, is the eatery's specialty. (View the full menu here.)

Yelper Kee V. wrote, "This is the best gyro joint in Milwaukee. Consistently delicious gyros, great customer service and speedy service. I usually get the gyro platter with their rice pilaf and it's always delicious. It's huge and I can usually make two meals out of it. Also, they're open late, so it's a great late night place to eat."

2. Apollo Café

Next up is Lower East Side's Apollo Café, located at 1310 E. Brady St., is another top choice, with Yelpers giving the Greek and Mediterranean spot four stars out of 132 reviews.

If you're craving classic Greek and Mediterranean fare—from gyros to moussaka to spanakopita and dolma—this spot delivers. The cafe's menu also boasts burgers named after gods, like Apollo and Zeus. (See the full menu here.)

Cheyenne H., who reviewed it on Aug. 18, said, "Favorite Greek restaurant in Milwaukee. When you order platters, you get a little bit of everything and that's my favorite kind of meal. Everything here tastes awesome. Last time I was there, I got the Greek fries and I didn't know fries could be that good. I would eat here everyday if I could."

3. The Halal Guys

The Halal Guys, a Middle Eastern, halal and Greek spot in Cambridge Heights, is another go-to, with four stars out of 125 Yelp reviews. Head over to 3133 N. Oakland Ave. to see for yourself.

The meat-and-rice spot started as a New York City food truck by three Egyptian taxi drivers, according to its website. On the menu, find chicken, beef and gyro platters that get their kick from Mediterranean and Middle Eastern spices. Its two signature sauces are barbecue and a nondairy white (regular and hot). Vegetarians? No worries. Just try a warm pita filled with falafel and your choice of toppings.

Hannah P. said, "[The] Halal Guys are dependable, consistent and delicious! You can never go wrong here. I always go for the mixed bowl with everything in it, with the white sauce. I added a healthy dose of the spicy sauce. My face wanted to melt, but it was so good!"
