A new Portuguese, African and halal spot has made its debut in the neighborhood. Called Porto's Peri Peri, the fresh addition is located at 2301 Central Expy, Suite 165. This is the Illinois chain's first location in Texas.
On the menu is its signature chicken, which you can order by the quarter, half or whole chicken. You can also get the chicken in wings, tenders or as part of a bowl. It offers burgers, sandwiches, wraps, salads and platters as well, plus an entire section for vegetarians. Sides include cassava fries, rice, flame-grilled corn on the cob and coleslaw. (See the full menu here.)
With a 3.5-star rating out of 35 reviews on Yelp so far, Porto's Peri Peri has made a solid start.
Amy C., who was among the first Yelpers to review the new spot on Nov. 19, wrote, "Finally got a chance to try this Portuguese/African fusion peri-peri chicken and i was not disappointed! ... The side we chose to go with the platter was the rice and it was very nicely seasoned, and we also got an order of the corn, thanks to the recommendation!"
And Dan S. wrote, "Intrigued by the name, we decided to check out the menu to see if there was anything vegetarian on the menu. Not only were there veg options, but there was an entire section devoted to vegetarian selections, along with a note stating that efforts will be made to keep all vegetarian items completely vegetarian."
