A new oyster and wine bar has opened up shop in the neighborhood. Located in the Municipal Fish Market development at 1150 Maine Ave. SW, the new arrival is called Rappahannock Oyster Bar.
The oysters are provided by parent Rappahannock Oyster Co. out of Topping, VA, the modern reboot of a 100-year-old Chesapeake harvester. This is the second of its bar concepts, with the first operating at Union Market.
The limited menu available so far includes a raw bar with oysters, clams, mussels and caviar, plus kitchen-produced fry baskets, chowder, burgers and po' boys. Wine and beer dominate the drinks list.
With a 4.5-star rating out of three reviews on Yelp so far, the new arrival is on its way to developing a local fan base.
Bob M., who was among the first Yelpers to review the new spot on November 28, wrote, "This is a great place to have a drink, some oysters and a light meal. There's a small bar inside, but a large patio outside."
And Maria C. wrote, "Everything was delicious, and the staff was so friendly and accommodating. The menu was limited because they just opened, but we got crab dip, oyster chowder, a burger and the crab cake. We cannot wait to go back for the full menu."
Intrigued? Stop in to try it for yourself. Rappahannock Oyster Bar is open from 11 a.m.–midnight on Sunday-Thursday and 11 a.m.–1 a.m. on Friday and Saturday.
