Crime incidents in Redwood City saw an overall increase last week, after a previous decline, according to data from SpotCrime, which collects data from police agencies and validated sources. Incidents rose to 66 for the week of December 10, up from 58 the week before.
The overall increase in crime incidents was led by assault and vandalism. Assault rose to seven incidents last week, from four the week before. Vandalism went from two to three.
Among the few types of offenses that saw a downturn last week, reports of theft went from 14 to seven, and burglary fell from nine to seven.
There were 21 reports of "other" crimes, an increase of 10 from the previous week. SpotCrime's broad "other" category includes a variety of offenses like fraud, trespassing, public disturbance and traffic violations. SpotCrime data also indicates that 21 arrests were made last week, up from 18 arrests the week before.
In terms of the concentration of crime across the city, Downtown, Middlefield and Eagle Hill had the most reported incidents last week. Downtown and Middlefield were at the top of the list the previous week as well.
Downtown saw the largest increase. Crime reports in Palm also rose, after declining the week before, and incidents in Eagle Hill are up considerably as well.
Regarding when most crimes are committed, Mondays, Wednesdays and Sundays produced the most reported crimes last week. The largest increase from the previous week occurred on Mondays, Saturdays and Tuesdays, while incidents on Fridays, Thursdays and Wednesdays went down. After midnight, late afternoon and evening saw the most crime last week.
