Hoodline crunched the numbers to find the top beer gardens in San Antonio, using both Yelp data and our own secret sauce to produce a ranked list of the best spots to venture when cravings strike.
1. Tycoon Flats
Topping the list is Tycoon Flats. Located at 2926 N. St. Marys St. in Tobin Hill, the beer garden and New American spot, which offers burgers and more, is the highest rated beer garden in San Antonio, boasting four stars out of 616 reviews on Yelp.
Tycoon Flats began as a gas station in the 1920s but was transformed into a restaurant 35 years ago. Opened by brothers Richard and Malcolm Hartman, the beer garden also has a patio. Guests can choose from 20 draft beers and a full menu of burgers, sandwiches, tacos, hot wings and more.
2. Alamo Beer
Next up is Dignowity Hill's Alamo Beer, situated at 202 Lamar St. With 4.5 stars out of 124 reviews on Yelp, the brewery, beer garden and venues and event space has proven to be a local favorite.
The beer company started off as an idea in 1994 by founder and president, Eugene Simor. By 2003 the Alamo Golden Ale brewing company was started. The garden sells several of its house-brewed beers, including the Alamo Holiday IPA.
3. Burleson Yard Beer Garden
Dignowity Hill's Burleson Yard Beer Garden, located at 430 Austin St., is another top choice, with Yelpers giving the beer garden, cocktail bar and New American spot 4.5 stars out of 116 reviews.
Burleson Yard Beer Garden features hammocks, indoor and outdoor seating, and has food trucks that serve their own menus to accompany the beer, cocktails and wine served.
4. Bier Garten Riverwalk
Bier Garten Riverwalk, a German beer garden located downtown, is another go-to, with four stars out of 213 Yelp reviews. Head over to 126 Losoya St., River Level to see for yourself.
Bier Garten has an extensive list of imported and craft beer. Authentic Bavarian food is also served here, li pretzels and sausages. There is also plenty of indoor and outdoor seating and local music.
