A rebranded barbecue restaurant has opened its doors in Elk Grove. Located at 5110 Laguna Blvd., Suite 120, in the former space of Dickey's Barbecue Pit, the joint, along with six others in the region, is now called Side Burn BBQ and Brew.

It now touts itself as a barbecue "with a California flair" on its website, and has a Tuesday-only tri-tip offering. (Dickey's is a Texas-based national chain.) The grill always carries brisket, pulled pork, chicken, turkey, sausage and ribs, along with a bevy of sides. (You can view the menu here.)

With a three-star rating out of 12 reviews on Yelp so far, the barbecue spot is still finding its footing.

Joe P., who was among the first Yelpers to review the new spot on December 15, wrote, "I tried the pork ribs and the pulled pork along with the french fries, okra and meaty beans. The ribs are flavorful and tender with a nice smoked flavor. The pulled pork was tender and juicy.  The okra is fried just right."

But Yelper C.M. A. complained, "Maybe it's just me, but seeing [the sign saying BBQ and Brew] I expected to see perhaps a nice lineup of draft beers on tap, as well as a wide assortment of bottled beers... There were 12 or 15 cans that looked like off-brand teas or sodas, but they turned out to be the "brews" part of the sign: Off-brand beers in cans."

Swing on by to take a peek for yourself: Side Burn is open from 11 a.m.–8 p.m. daily.
