Topping the list is Cuppencake, located at 22211 IH 10 West, Suite 1111, in the Dominion Ridge Shopping Center. The bakery, established in 2014, is the highest rated cupcake spot in San Antonio, boasting four stars out of 166 reviews on Yelp.

Cupcakes, priced at $3 to $3.25, come in a variety of house flavors including chocolate ganache, orange blossom and blueberry-lemon. The shop's website notes that the flavors change regularly, and you can also special order cupcakes with advance notice.

2. Nothing Bundt Cakes

Next up is Nothing Bundt Cakes, situated at 5164 Broadway St. With 4.5 stars out of 42 reviews on Yelp, the bakery, which offers desserts, cupcakes and more, has proven to be a local favorite.

Nothing Bundt Cakes is a national chain that is known for its tiny bundt cakes, or bundtinis, covered in cream cheese frosting. Flavors include carrot, red velvet, confetti and chocolate chocolate cake. Full-size bundt cakes are also available.

3. Oh Yeah Cakes

Oh Yeah Cakes, located at 5257 McCullough Ave., is another top choice, with Yelpers giving the bakery, which offers signature cupcakes and more, 4.5 stars out of 33 reviews.

This bakery features a $2 cupcake of the month special, with a wide variety of flavors including truffle, chocolate candy bar, Nutella and root beer float. Seasonal offerings include a pecan pie cupcake.

4. Smallcakes San Antonio

Smallcakes San Antonio, a bakery that offers desserts and cupcakes, is another go-to, with four stars out of 77 Yelp reviews. Founded in Kansas, there are now franchise locations in dozens of states. Head over to 10919 Culebra Road to try the local outpost for yourself. 

This bakery has cupcakes available in over 200 flavors on a rotating basis and by special order. Some options include maple bacon, Kentucky bourbon, cotton candy, margarita and stuffed French toast. Check out the full menu here. 

5. Saweet Cupcakes

Then there's Saweet Cupcakes, which has earned four stars out of 70 reviews on Yelp. You can find the family-owned shop, which offers cupcakes, custom cakes and more, at 16652 San Pedro Ave. in Shady Oaks. It also operates a cupcake truck that makes stops around town and is available to rent.

The bakery's flavors include Texas pecan, chocolate turtle, banana split, lemon dream and tres leches. Cupcakes are $2.75 to $3.50.
