The Favourite

In 18th century England, the close relationship between Queen Anne and Sarah Churchill is threatened by the arrival of Sarah's cousin, Abigail Hill, which results in a bitter rivalry between the two cousins to be the Queen's favorite.

With a 94 percent critical approval rating and an audience score of 60 percent on Rotten Tomatoes, "The Favourite" has garnered plenty of praise since its release on Dec. 14, with a consensus that "'The Favourite' sees Yorgos Lanthimos balancing a period setting against rich, timely subtext — and getting roundly stellar performances from his well-chosen stars."

The film has received numerous Golden Globe nominations, including for Best Picture, Olivia Colman for Best Actress and Rachel Weisz and Emma Stone for Supporting Actress.

It's screening at Alamo Drafthouse Yonkers (2548 Central Park Ave.) through Thursday, Dec. 27. Click here for showtimes and tickets.

The Prince of Egypt

This is the extraordinary tale of two brothers named Moses and Ramses, one born of royal blood, and one an orphan with a secret past. Growing up the best of friends, they share a strong bond of free-spirited youth and good-natured rivalry. But the truth will ultimately set them at odds, as one becomes the ruler of the most powerful empire on Earth, and the other the chosen leader of his people. Their final confrontation will forever change their lives and the world.

With a 79 percent critical approval rating and an audience score of 60 percent on Rotten Tomatoes, this 1990s flick comes with positive recommendations. The site's critical consensus indicates that "'The Prince of Egypt''s stunning visuals and first-rate voice cast more than compensate for the fact that it's better crafted than it is emotionally involving."

You can catch it at Alamo Drafthouse Yonkers (2548 Central Park Ave.) through Monday, Dec. 31. Click here for showtimes and tickets.

Aquaman

The film reveals the origin story of half-human, half-Atlantean Arthur Curry and takes him on the journey of his lifetime — one that will not only force him to face who he really is, but to discover if he is worthy of who he was born to be: a king.

Set to be released on Friday, Dec. 21, "Aquaman" already has a critical approval rating of 69 percent on Rotten Tomatoes. The site's critical consensus indicates that "'Aquaman' swims with its entertainingly ludicrous tide, offering up CGI superhero spectacle that delivers energetic action with an emphasis on good old-fashioned fun."

It's screening at Cross County Multiplex Cinemas (2 South Drive) through Thursday, Dec. 27; Showcase Cinema de Lux Ridge Hill (59 Fitzgerald St.) through Thursday, Dec. 27; and Alamo Drafthouse Yonkers (2548 Central Park Ave.) through Thursday, Dec. 27. Click here for showtimes and tickets.

Bohemian Rhapsody

Singer Freddie Mercury, guitarist Brian May, drummer Roger Taylor and bass guitarist John Deacon take the music world by storm when they form the rock 'n' roll band Queen in 1970. Hit songs become instant classics. When Mercury's increasingly wild lifestyle starts to spiral out of control, Queen soon faces its greatest challenge yet — to find a way to keep the band together amid the success and excess.

With a 62 percent critical approval rating and an audience score of 90 percent on Rotten Tomatoes, "Bohemian Rhapsody" is well worth a watch, with a consensus that "'Bohemian Rhapsody' hits a handful of high notes, but as an in-depth look at a beloved band, it offers more of a medley than a true greatest hits collection."

Rami Malek, who plays Mercury in the film, is a Golden Globe nominee for Best Actor.

It's screening at Showcase Bow Tie Cinemas Tenafly Cinema 4 (4 1/2 West Railroad Ave.) through Monday, Dec. 24. Click here for showtimes and tickets.
