Hoodline crunched the numbers to find the top toy sources in Washington, using both Yelp data and our own secret sauce to produce a ranked list of where to venture next time you're in the market for trinkets.
1. Labyrinth Games & Puzzles
Topping the list is Labyrinth Games & Puzzles. It boasts a wide selection of specialty games, puzzles, and mazes, with an emphasis on board and strategy games for adults. Most nights of the week, you'll find gaming events, from Magic: The Gathering to a kids' Pokemon club.
Located a block from Eastern Market at 645 Pennsylvania Ave. SE (between South Sixth and South Seventh streets), it is the highest rated toy store in Washington, boasting five stars out of 160 reviews on Yelp.
2. Barston's Child's Play
Next up is Chevy Chase's Barston's Child's Play, situated at 5536 Connecticut Ave. NW (between North McKinley and North Livingston streets). This large store -- one of four Barston's in the DMV -- is very much child-focused.
It stocks some of the bigger names in toys, like Lego, Brio and Playmobil, plus arts and crafts materials, musical toys and science-oriented gear. Also check out the kids' book section. With 4.5 stars out of 48 reviews on Yelp, it has proven to be a local favorite.
3. Sullivan's Toy Store & Art Supplies
Chevy Chase's Sullivan's Toy Store & Art Supplies, located at 4200 Wisconsin Ave. NW, is another top choice, with Yelpers giving it four stars out of 36 reviews. Relocated from its long-time location in Cleveland Park, you'll find a store packed with books, trains, toys, dolls and action figures, stuffed animals and, of course, art supplies.
Gift wrapping is complimentary, and it's just a short walk from the Tenleytown metro station.
