A new cosmetics spot has made its debut in the neighborhood. The fresh arrival to Dupont Circle, called The Brown Beauty Co-Op, is located at 1365 Connecticut Ave. NW, Suite 100.
It combines the efforts of two local entrepreneurs. Kimberly Smith founded Marjani, a maker of skincare and cosmetics for women of color, while Amaya Smith started Project Junkie, which does the same for wearers of natural hair.
The new boutique sells products from both brands, as well as brands from other women of color, and also offers appointments for makeup application.
The Brown Beauty Co-op has proven popular thus far, with a five-star rating out of three reviews on Yelp.
Jenny J., who was among the first Yelpers to review the new spot on January 5, wrote, "The atmosphere in the store is amazing. ... The owners are operating the store and are extremely knowledgeable about all of the products they carry."
Yelper Myra R. added of co-owner Kimberly Smith, "She was pleasant, very knowledgeable and welcoming. She helped me locate a few items I had picked out on line but went to the store to purchase in person. I was so excited to see and touch a real palette in a real store meant for me. ”
Head on over to check it out: The Brown Beauty Co-op is open from 10 a.m.–8 p.m. on weekdays and 11 a.m.–8 p.m. on weekends.
