A new German spot and beer hall has made its debut in the neighborhood. The new addition to Georgetown, called The Berliner, is located in the former Malmaison spot at 3401 Water St. NW.
You'll find two dozen taps dispensing everything from German weissbiers and pilsners to locally-produced porters, IPAs and even cider. There are also German and Austrian wines available, plus cocktails like the Rumplemintzken, made with white rum, Rumplemintz, lime and soda.
A menu inspired by Berlin's street food includes bratwurst, kofta kebabs, pretzels and falafel.
The Berliner has gotten an enthusiastic response thus far, with a five-star rating out of three reviews on Yelp.
William L., who was among the first Yelpers to review the new spot on Jan. 2, wrote, "Dozens of beers in steins, incredible brats, sausages, wursts, etc. They have several types of mustards, relishes and ketchups to top your food, as well as great appetizers like loaded fries and the classic pretzel. I'm excited for warmer weather when they can hopefully open their garage doors and create a lively atmosphere."
And Les W. wrote, "This restaurant just opened, but I hope it stays here for a long time. We tried it last night and the sausages were superb, the sides great and they have an excellent draft beer selection."
Head on over to check it out: The Berliner is open from 5–10 p.m. on Tuesday and Sunday and 5–11 p.m. on Wednesday-Saturday. (It's closed on Monday.)
