Hungry? A new neighborhood Japanese spot has you covered. Located in the Hillsdale Shopping Center at 60 E. 31st Ave., #389 in Northeast Hillsdale, the new addition is called Yayoi.
It's the third location for the South Bay-based business, with the others in Palo Alto and Cupertino. Yayoi features a style of Japanese cuisine known as teishoku, which offers set combination meals of rice, miso soup, a main and vegetable sides for a balanced meal.
Customers order through an iPad at their tables. (It's possible to order a la carte, too.) Mains include chicken or pork katsu, sukiyaki, and grilled mackerel with eggplant and pork belly, plus lots of rice and noodle dishes. A number of desserts, like mochi ice cream and matcha tiramisu are also available.
The new Japanese bistro has made a good impression thus far, with a 3.5-star rating out of 14 reviews on Yelp.
Kathy L., who was among the first Yelpers to review the new spot on January 5, wrote, "As soon as we put our order in, the drinks and the chawan mushi came. The flavour and the temperature was spot on. Next, came the squid legs. Again, the temperature and the flavour was perfect. Finally, our eel rice came. Yummy."
Yelper Christina F. added, “Service was fast and the food was good. Presentation was well done — I felt like I was eating fancy considering I just ordered my meal on a touchscreen.”
Head on over to check it out: Yayoi is open from 11 a.m.–10 p.m. daily.
