Craving poke? You're in luck: a new business has opened its doors in the neighborhood. The fresh arrival to Foggy Bottom, called Poke Papa, is located at 1919 Pennsylvania Ave. NW.
With another location in Chinatown, this spot offers a variety of build-your-own poke bowls complete with a wide selection of rice, protein, toppings, sauce and sprinkles for crunchiness. Look for options like black "forbidden" rice, salmon, spicy tuna, grilled tofu, veggies and more.
Poke Papa has already attracted fans thus far, with a five-star rating out of four reviews on Yelp.
Noor H., who was the first Yelper to review the spot on Nov. 27, wrote, "I made my own bowl with ahi poke and their marinated salmon with crab salad, edamame, mango, ginger and a bunch of other small bits. I topped it off with the gochujang sauce along with another sauce. The fish is super fresh and it all came together so well."
Yelper Sharon K. added, "Great base, protein and topping variety. As someone who likes brown rice for texture, the forbidden purple rice is heavenly. I like how they have various bowl sizes, each with a specified amount of protein."
Intrigued? Stop in to try it for yourself. Poke Papa is open from 11 a.m.–8 p.m. on weekdays. (It's closed on weekends.)
