A new Mexican spot has made its debut in the neighborhood. Called Chaia, the newcomer is located at 615 I St. NW in Mount Vernon Triangle.
This expansion from the original location in Georgetown continues the local chain's commitment to a completely vegetarian menu. The focused menu offers five taco combinations, with ingredients like creamy kale and potato, citrus-roasted beets and braised mushrooms. Sides include black beans, sweet potato soup, and green rice made with feta, herb pesto and pepitas. On weekends, you can add fried or scrambled eggs to your plate as well.
A series of taps offer everything from iced tea and kombucha to local cider and Italian wine.
With a 4.5-star rating out of three reviews on Yelp so far, Chaia has been warmly received by patrons.
Austin G., who was among the first Yelpers to review the new spot on Jan. 9, wrote, "Chaia is a vegetarian taco shop that could easily convince the world to forgo meat. The tacos are that good. There's a large open room with plenty of tables and several long tables by the windows. You order your food and watch the staff create your taco."
Yelper Natalie K. added, “For someone who loves meat-based tacos, vegetarian tacos from Chaia make a great contrast. The vegetables and seasoning they use combine nicely to make a savory taco."
Chaia is now open at 615 I St. NW., so stop by to welcome the new business to the neighborhood.
