Philz Coffee
4121 Wilson Blvd., Suite 102C

First, Philz Coffee is a San Francisco Bay-area chain that specializes in made-to-order pour-over coffees.
The cafe offers a wide variety of blends, ranging from dark to light roast as well as single-origin and decaf. Each blend boasts a distinct mix of aromas, like the Tantalizing Turkish's cardamom, herbs and tobacco; or the Ambrosia's blackberry, grape and toast.
A handful of pastries and bites, including bowls and toasts, are on offer as well.
Yelp users are excited about Philz Coffee, which currently holds 4.5 stars out of eight reviews on the site.
Yelper Zhou W., who reviewed Philz Coffee on Feb. 2, wrote, "Philz gives a completely different coffee experience — you interact with the barista making your drink face to face. Even when you are unsure about what to order, the barista will ask you how you traditionally like your coffee — the menu also has very helpful tasting notes."
Catherine M. noted, "On an afternoon on Sunday, the place is pretty busy, but there was still ample seating, and a lot of people were there working on their laptops. You basically wait in one line to order and then stand in another to pay, which was pretty efficient."
Philz Coffee is open from 5 a.m.–8 p.m. on weekdays and 6 a.m.–8 p.m. on weekends.
BurgerIM
3811 Fairfax Drive

BurgerIM is a fast-food chain known for its oversized sliders made with your choice of patty — including five types of beef, poultry, seafood and falafel — and preferred toppings.
Or, diners can opt to have their patties dressed in one of the signature styles, like the Cowboy, combining cheddar cheese, bacon, an onion ring and barbecue sauce; or the California, with Swiss cheese, mixed greens, tomato, avocado and chipotle mayo.
There's also chicken wings and strips, side dishes and party boxes combining a range of sliders and/or sides.
With a 3.5-star rating out of four reviews on Yelp, BurgerIM is still finding its way, but it's still early days.
Yelper Matt K., who reviewed BurgerIM on Feb. 2, wrote, "This place is fairly good. The sliders are nothing special, but they are par for the course in the D.C. area. The fries are good, but the portion size is a little small for the price."
Christine B. noted, "The concept is pretty cool because you can get a few different mini burgers with different toppings. The chicken is also really tasty. The fries and onion rings are crisp and well-seasoned."
BurgerIM is open from 11 a.m.–8 p.m. on Monday-Thursday, 11 a.m.–9 p.m. on Friday and Saturday, and 11 a.m.–7 p.m. on Sunday.
Shake Shack
4201 Wilson Blvd., Suite 0180

Finally, Shake Shack has opened an outlet in the Ballston Exchange building.
The rapidly-expanding chain serves burgers with toppings like smoked bacon, chopped cherry pepper and the house ShackSauce. There are also chicken sandwiches and hot dogs and fries on the side. Beer, wine and milkshakes are also available.
With a three-star Yelp rating out of 18 reviews on Yelp, Shake Shack is also still finding its footing.
Yelper Gabriella S., who reviewed Shake Shack on Jan. 1, wrote, "If you are a cheese-aholic, the Shroomami burger is a cheese-lovers dream. A mushroom stuffed with cheese that, when you bite in, you get all the ooey gooey deliciousness your heart desires. You can even add one of these cheese-stuffed mushrooms to any burger."
Yelper Donna N. wrote, "Personally, I think the burgers are just OK; I enjoy the fried chicken sandwich more. The spicy chicken sandwich comes with cole slaw and pickles, and you can customize it to make it how you like it. You cannot pass up on the crinkle fries; they are incredible and crispy."
Shake Shack is open from 11 a.m.–10 p.m. daily.
