A new cocktail bar and New American spot has opened up shop in the neighborhood. The new arrival to Downtown, called 618 Cocktail and Whiskey Lounge, is located at 618 H St. NW, Floor 2.

It sits above the Chinatown Garden restaurant where it replaces the Penny Whisky Bar. The lighting is dark and the atmosphere is laid back.

On the menu, look for some signature cocktails, like the Old Penny, with Redemption Rye, vanilla-infused agave and bitters, plus classics like the Old Fashioned. Beer-and-a-shot combos and happy hour specials help keep costs down.

There's also a short food menu featuring a burger with whiskey sauce, fried pickle spears and chicken wings in finishes from Old Bay to sweet chili.

With a five-star rating out of four reviews on Yelp so far, the fresh arrival has been warmly received by patrons.

Katie J., who was among the first Yelpers to review the new spot on February 9, wrote, "The bartender was knowledgeable about whiskey and made me a great Old Fashion. The drinks were good, the vibe was chill and they made popcorn for us that was pretty good too."
