If you've got New American on the mind, a recent opening is need-to-know. The fresh addition to Columbia Heights, called Rooster & Owl, is located at 2436 14th St. NW.
It offers a set-price tasting menu of four courses with four options per course. The menu is expected to change seasonally, but has so far included starters like Napa cabbage with green peppercorn and chervil, mains like lobster etoufee, and desserts like hazelnuts with praline mousseline cream and dark chocolate.
Vegetarians should always expect a few options. Servers place the food in the center of the table to encourage a communal meal.
Signature cocktails or wine can be purchased a la carte, or go with a pairing option for an additional fee.
Rooster & Owl has proven popular thus far, with a five-star rating out of seven reviews on Yelp.
Cham K., who was among the first Yelpers to review the new spot on February 8, wrote, "The small plates we tried were all humble dishes, but made with elevated flavors which we very much appreciated. The chicken was tender with a crisp outside accompanied by roulade, parsnip and wild mushrooms which made it a sensational dish."
Yelper Lili L. added, “This was an incredible, comprehensive dining experience. The ambiance, service, speciality cocktails and dishes were all top-notch and coalesced beautifully into a wonderful date night out.”
