The number of crime incidents in Burlingame saw an overall decrease last week, for the second week in a row, according to data from SpotCrime, which collects data from police agencies and validated sources. Incidents fell to 159 for the week of Feb. 25, down from 165 the week before.
The offenses that decreased the most were theft and assault. Theft fell to 30 incidents last week, from 35 the week before. Assault went from five to three. Reports of assault have continued to fall for the last two weeks.
There was one reported vandalism last week. That represents a steady state from the previous week.
Among the few types of offenses that saw an uptick last week, reports of burglary went from 21 to 24.
There were 101 reports of "other" crimes, a decrease of one from the previous week. SpotCrime's broad "other" category includes a variety of offenses like fraud, trespassing, public disturbance and traffic violations. Of those incidents, two involved arrests, such as for drug possession, down from three reported arrests the week before.
Regarding when most crimes are committed, Fridays, Mondays and Tuesdays saw the most reported crimes last week. The largest decrease from the previous week occurred on Sundays, Saturdays and Mondays, while incidents on Fridays, Tuesdays and Wednesdays went up. Comparing times of day, early morning, late afternoon and evening saw the most crime last week.
