The number of crime incidents in Catonsville saw an overall increase last week, for the second week in a row, according to data from SpotCrime, which collects data from police agencies and validated sources. Incidents rose to 145 for the week of March 4, up from 141 the week before.

Theft and robbery led the increase in crime incidents. Theft rose to 20 incidents last week, from 14 the week before. Robbery went from zero to three.

Among the few types of offenses that saw a downturn last week, reports of vandalism went from 13 to seven. Incidents of assault fell from six to four, and burglary went down from three to two.

There were 109 reports of "other" crimes, an increase of four from the previous week. SpotCrime's broad "other" category includes a variety of offenses like fraud, trespassing, public disturbance and traffic violations. Of those incidents, nine involved arrests, such as for drug possession, up from five reported arrests the week before.

Regarding when crime most often occurs, Wednesdays, Tuesdays and Mondays saw the most crime incidents last week. The largest increase from the previous week occurred on Wednesdays, Sundays and Tuesdays, while incidents on Fridays, Thursdays and Mondays went down. Comparing times of day, evening, early afternoon and late afternoon saw the most crime last week.
