Core-Columbia gets a new speakeasy: Room 56Photo: Room 56/Yelp

A new speakeasy has made its debut in the neighborhood. Called Room 56, the fresh addition is located at 831 Sixth Ave. in Core-Columbia.

Sneak behind a bookcase and down a winding staircase to this elegant cocktail lounge. The bar offers a limited snack menu alongside hand-crafted cocktails like the Martha Mary Mercy with vodka, lemon, vanilla orgeat, blackberry and egg white; the Panniers and Petticoats with bourbon, fig, cinnamon, vermouth and cardamom bitters; and the Trinidad sour — a medley of rye, lemon, vanilla orgeat and bitters.

The new speakeasy has already attracted fans thus far, with a five-star rating out of three reviews on Yelp.

Alyssa S., who was among the first Yelpers to review the new spot on March 13, wrote, "Love this place — an intimate hideaway down a cool staircase in a hotel, with totally on-point and creative cocktails!"

Interested? Stop by to welcome the new business to the neighborhood. Room 56 is open from 6 p.m.–2 a.m. on Wednesday-Saturday. (It's closed on Monday, Tuesday and Sunday.)
