The number of crime incidents in Metairie saw an overall decrease last week, for the third week in a row, according to data from SpotCrime, which collects data from police agencies and validated sources. Incidents fell to 262 for the week of Feb. 25, down from 308 the week before.

The specific offenses that decreased the most were theft and burglary. Theft fell to 52 incidents last week, from 83 the week before. Burglary went from 12 to nine. Reports of theft have continued to fall for the last two weeks.

Among the few types of offenses that saw an uptick last week, reports of vandalism went from 10 to 16. Shootings rose from two to six, and assault went up from 30 to 33.

There were 143 reports of "other" crimes, a decrease of 27 from the previous week. SpotCrime's broad "other" category includes a variety of offenses like fraud, trespassing, public disturbance and traffic violations. Of those incidents, 10 involved arrests, such as for drug possession, down from 15 reported arrests the week before.

Regarding when most crimes are committed, Fridays, Thursdays and Sundays witnessed the most crime incidents last week. The largest decrease from the previous week occurred on Wednesdays, Saturdays and Mondays, while incidents on Thursdays and Tuesdays went up. Comparing times of day, early afternoon, late afternoon and early morning saw the most crime last week.
