We took a data-driven look at the question, using Yelp to deduce which restaurants have been getting outsized notice this month.

To find out who made the list, we looked at Sacramento businesses on Yelp by category and counted how many reviews each received. Rather than compare them based on number of reviews alone, we calculated a percentage increase in reviews over the past month, and tracked businesses that consistently increase their volume of reviews to identify statistically significant outliers compared to past performance.

Citywide, New American spots saw a median 1.6 percent increase in new reviews over the past month, but Bacon and Butter saw a remarkable 175 percent increase, with a slight downward trend from a four-star rating a month ago to 3.5 stars today.

It's not the only trending outlier in the New American category: Camden Spit and Larder has seen a 23.3 percent increase in reviews, and Beast and Bounty and Yard House have seen 14 and 8.6 percent increases, respectively.

While businesses categorized as "Bars" on Yelp saw a median 2.2 percent increase in new reviews over the past month, THAI — The House Of Authentic Ingredients bagged an 18 percent increase in new reviews within that timeframe, maintaining a solid four-star rating.

While businesses categorized as "Seafood" on Yelp saw a median 2.5 percent increase in new reviews over the past month, this wine bar and Italian spot, which offers seafood and more, increased its by 8.4 percent—and kept its rating consistent at four stars.
