The number of crime incidents in Vallejo saw an overall decrease last week, for the second week in a row, according to data from SpotCrime, which collects data from police agencies and validated sources. Incidents fell to 85 for the week of February 25, down from 108 the week before.
The specific offenses that decreased the most were theft and vandalism. Theft fell to 23 incidents last week, from 32 the week before. Vandalism went from 11 to six.
There were nine reported assault incidents last week. That represents a decrease from 13 incidents the previous week. There were also 37 incidents of burglary, down from 38 the week before.
Among the few types of offenses that saw an uptick last week, reports of arson went from zero to one. Incidents of robbery rose from one to two, and shootings went up from zero to one.
There were six reports of "other" crimes, a decrease of seven from the previous week. SpotCrime's broad "other" category includes a variety of offenses like fraud, trespassing, public disturbance and traffic violations. Of those incidents, two involved arrests, such as for drug possession, the same number as the week before.
As far as where crime is concentrated in the city, Saint Vincents Hill Historic District and Vallejo Heights continued to have the most reported incidents last week.
Regarding when crime most often occurs, Tuesdays, Mondays and Thursdays witnessed the most reported crimes last week. The largest decrease from the previous week occurred on Mondays, Wednesdays and Fridays, while incidents on Thursdays and Tuesdays went up. Comparing times of day, late morning, early morning and midday saw the most crime last week.
