Sponsored by the Global Sport Institute, this event revolves around a film by Maya Washington, the daughter of former Minnesota Vikings legend Gene Washington. Ms. Washington chronicles the story of her father and 22 other African-American football players at Michigan State University who, in 1963, became the first fully race-integrated college football team in the United States. The evening begins with a discussion between Global Sport Institute CEO Kenneth Shropshire and both Maya and Gene Washington. After a rooftop showing of the film, Maya and Gene will take questions from the attendees.

"Time for Ilhan" Film Screening

This event features a screening of the documentary chronicling the rise of this first-term politician in the Democratic Party. The film details Ms. Ilhan's campaign to become the first Muslim woman in the United States to hold state office and how that dream became a reality when she was elected as State Representative for Minnesota's Senate District 60B on November 8, 2016. A discussion panel will follow the film screening.

"A Prayer for Compassion" Film Screening

Another film screening is featured for this event. Sponsored by Plant Powered People and Climate Healers, this documentary details interviews with persons from the major world religions, including Buddhism, Christianity, Hinduism, Islam and Judaism, as they discuss their religion's beliefs about showing compassion for all living things, both human and animal. Particular emphasis is given to the concept of whole-food and plant-based diets grounded in the health of the human body and compassion for animals. A Q&A session with the film's executive producer, Dr. Sailesh Rao, will follow the screening.

Girls in Gis 

This event is a Brazilian Jiu-Jitsu training session for women and girls only. All ages and skill levels are welcome, even if you have never tried Jiu-Jitsu before. All training sessions are made possible through donations, so even though this event is free, a $20 donation is suggested. Girls in Gis merchandise will also be available for purchase.
