The number of crime reports in Atlanta saw an overall decline last month for the fourth month in a row, according to data from SpotCrime, which collects data from police agencies and validated sources.

Incidents fell by 3.2 percent, from 1,677 in February to 1,624 in March.

Assault and theft led the most recent decrease in crime incidents. Assault fell from 216 reported incidents in February to 189 in March. Theft incidents went from 805 to 781 for the month, or about a 3 percent decrease.

While somewhat smaller categories, there was also a sizable percentage decrease last month in shootings, from two incidents per month to one. Shooting reports have decreased since the same month last year, as have burglary incidents.

Among the few types of offenses that saw an uptick last month, robbery reports went from 135 to 145.

Considering the concentration of crime across the city, Downtown, Sweet Auburn and Atlanta University Center saw the largest decline from February to March. Leila Valley, Pine Hills and South Tuxedo Park also saw considerable percentage decreases in crime offenses for the month.

Fridays, Saturdays and Sundays saw the most reported crimes last month. The largest decrease from the previous month occurred on Mondays, Wednesdays and Thursdays, while incidents on Fridays, Saturdays and Sundays went up. Comparing times of day, after midnight, late night and late afternoon saw the most crime last month on average each day.
