The number of crime reports in New Orleans last week decreased after a previous rise, according to data from SpotCrime, which collects data from police agencies and other validated sources.

Incidents fell to 3,959 for the week of April 15, down from 4,291 the previous week.

The greatest decreases were in assaults and thefts. Assault fell to 299 incidents from 368. Thefts decreased from 486 to 421.

There were 66 shootings reported, down from 76 the previous week.

Robberies were down from 27 incidents per week to 19, and vandalism incidents dropped from 107 to 93.

Among the few offenses that saw an uptick last week were burglary, from 218 to 241, and arson, from zero to one.

There were 2,819 reports of other crimes over the week, a decrease of 190. SpotCrime's category of other crimes includes fraud, trespassing, public disturbance, drug possession and traffic violations. Among those incidents, there were 90 arrests, up from 82 in the previous week.

Most of last week's reported incidents occurred in the French Quarter, Central Business District and Little Woods neighborhoods. However, there were fewer incidents in Little Woods than in the previous week.

Crime in Treme-Lafitte decreased the most. Incidents in Marigny declined as well.
