Interested in adopting a pet — or just gazing at some delightful doggies? There are dozens of great dogs up for adoption at animal shelters in and around Columbus.

Animal shelters work hard to care for unhoused pets and connect them to loving homes. Hoodline used data from Petfinder to power this roundup of dogs currently available for adoption.

Blueberry, pit bull terrier mix

Blueberry is a female pit bull terrier mix staying at Franklin County Dog Shelter & Adoption Center.

Her vaccinations are up to date, and she's been spayed. She has work to do on house training etiquette.

Blueberry isn't great with other dogs. She'd do best in a dog-free forever home.

From Blueberry's caretaker:

Blueberry is a strong young lady! She is always ready for a walk around the neighborhood or a game of fetch in the back yard. This girl will sniff everything she can get her nose on! Blueberry should be the only dog in the house.

Cal, mixed breed mix

Cal is a male mixed breed mix currently residing at Franklin County Dog Shelter & Adoption Center.

He has all of his shots, and he's been neutered. He still needs some guidance on proper house training.

From Cal's caretaker:

I'm a naturally playful, curious, and trusting canine. Take me for a big walk every day; give me something to do. After my job's done I'll curl up in front of the fire with you in the evenings. I'm a dog on a mission to please you and myself.

Zoe, border collie mix

Zoe is a female border collie mix being cared for at Stop the Suffering.

She is already vaccinated, and she's been spayed. She would do best in a home without other dogs, small children, or cats.

From Zoe's caretaker:

Poor little Zoe has had a really tough life. She spent most of it on a chain with her only shelter being a dog house. When her foster mom rescued her in late 2018, Zoe had heartworms. She has been treated and is doing really well. She is loving, sweet and great with adults and the few older children she has been around. She has not been around small children. Zoe lives with her foster parents and several dogs and cats. Most of the time she is okay with them but at times can show dislike and some aggression and we are, therefore, recommending Zoe be an "only dog".

Please take a chance on Zoe! She is loyal and wants to please.

Missi, pit bull terrier mix

Missi is a female pit bull terrier mix staying at Franklin County Dog Shelter & Adoption Center.

Her vaccinations are already up to date, and she's been spayed. She has work to do on house training etiquette.

From Missi's caretaker:

Want to get more exercise? Action is my middle name. My "let's go!" lifestyle will keep you motivated to get outside and move. I've got tons of energy, and just like the sun, I'm burning and working 24 hours a day, seven days a week. I'll run for miles, chase a ball for hours and and still want to play at the end of the day.

Tater Tot, border collie mix

Tater Tot is a male border collie mix currently residing at Stop the Suffering.

His vaccinations aren't up to date quite yet, and he hasn't been neutered yet. He still needs some guidance on proper house training.

From Tater Tot's caretaker:

Hello, my name is Tater Tot! I am just a big love weighing 60 lbs, who really wants to be a part of a devoted family. I enjoy playing outside with my toys, going for walks and jogs, and snuggling close to nice people. I would like a home with a yard as I love to be outside! I am eager to learn and I have been comfortable with all the kids and adults I have met so far. I adore an abundance of attention from humans and especially love to play with other dogs. I have a little bit of puppy energy left even though I am two, but I also know how to settle down quickly and will happily curl up for a long, energizing nap. I am crate-trained, have learned some basic commands, and have become quite the gentleman on the leash. I can’t wait to show off how much I’ve learned!

Flex, pit bull terrier mix

Flex is a male pit bull terrier mix being kept at Franklin County Dog Shelter & Adoption Center.

He has all of his shots, and he's been neutered. He still needs some guidance on proper house training.

Flex wants your attention, so he'd do best in a home without other dogs.

From Flex's caretaker:

Flex is a goofy dude! He's a happy dog, with his tail always wagging and hopping from one foot to another. Flex is a fun guy, and loves getting attention from people. He will run after toys you throw his way, but would be even more happy spending time with you. Flex would do best as the only pooch in his new home, as he wants to get to know you! Owner must have a great sense of humor and a bunch of tennis balls.

Joe, pit bull terrier mix

Joe is a male pit bull terrier mix currently residing at Franklin County Dog Shelter & Adoption Center.

His vaccinations are up to date, and he's been neutered. He has work to do on house training etiquette.

From Joe's caretaker:

You're gonna love Joe! This sweet pooch has a heart of gold and can't wait to be your very best friend. He is gentle and loving, and is happiest by your side. He is a little unsure of other dogs, so he must meet any potential furry friends before adoption. Looking for an emotionally secure, mutually satisfying, low maintenance relationship? Joe is all you need. Let him sit at your feet, walk by your side and and he'll be your devoted companion forever.
