Interested in adopting a pet — or just taking a peek at some lovable kitties near you? There are dozens of deserving cats up for adoption at animal shelters in and around Columbus.

Animal shelters work hard to care for unhoused pets and connect them to loving homes. Hoodline used data from Petfinder to power this roundup of cats currently available for adoption.

Hoodline offers data-driven analysis of local happenings and trends across cities. Details like pet availability, training, vaccinations and other features are based on data provided by Petfinder and may be subject to change; contact the shelter for the latest information.

Luke, domestic shorthair mix

Luke is a male domestic shorthair mix being cared for at Pets Without Parents Columbus.

He's already house-trained and neutered, and he has all his shots.

Luke's current caretakers say:

Luke and his siblings came from a rough spot to PWP. They are all terrified to be here. Luke is slowly but surely shedding his shell and allowing the love in. Luke will cower before you pet him, but then rise to reach your hand because he wants more, more, more. Luke is looking for patient parents, but it will be worth it in the end.

Salem, domestic shorthair

Salem is a charming female domestic shorthair cat staying at For the Love of Jane.

Salem will get along great with dogs. She's already house-trained.

Salem's current caretakers say:

Salem was brought to the rescue by a woman who had noticed her outside in rough shape. She thought Salem had an owner because she was wearing a collar, but it was very tight and old. No one claimed Salem and the woman noticed she was having hair loss and pregnant. She is a very loving talkative lady. She enjoys playing with anything and will talk to you for hours. She is happy to be indoors and cuddled. Salem is due in April and would love to have a forever home after her kittens are weaned. She will not be available for adoption until early summer.

Rusty, domestic shorthair mix

Rusty is a female domestic shorthair mix in the care of Cat Welfare Association.

She has been vaccinated and spayed.

Rusty's current caretakers say:

I am wary of new human interaction-- a bit of stranger danger-- so I tend to perch high and observe. Watch for my signals to approach: I will offer a squeak, arch my back and give a wiggle when I feel like we need to connect. Once we have connected, I promise greetings with my squeak and extended paw that will let you know you are important to me. I bet this will surprise you--- I have lived in the shelter since 2013. It took me a bit of time to learn the fine art of humane interaction. Now that I am poised for my forever home, I hate to be picky, but I am probably not suited for your home if you have young children.

Pi, domestic shorthair

Pi is an adorable male domestic shorthair cat staying at Columbus Pet Rescue.

Pi gets along well with other cats. He is looking for a dog-free household and a home without small children. He's already house-trained and neutered, and he has all his shots.

Notes from Pi's caretakers:

Pi will take a little more time to adjust to new surroundings, but once comfortable he will sit in your lap, beg for treats, and be a bed hog. He loves playing with his buddy Moon Zappa and it would be great if they could go together.

Jim, domestic shorthair mix

Jim is a darling male domestic shorthair mix in the care of Cat Welfare Association.

He has been vaccinated and neutered.

Here's what Jim's friends at Cat Welfare Association think of him:

Before I came here, my owner died and I was left outside to fend for myself. A kindly older gentleman was feeding me but couldn't keep me. When he saw a coyote near his house, he feared for my safety and brought me here. I am a very loyal cat and like to pick out one person to bond with and really latch on. I was in a cage when I first arrived here, but I did not like that. I do like to have lots of hiding places where I can retreat when I am feeling overwhelmed. If you come to visit me and I am hiding, I will come out if you sit on the floor and offer me treats.
