Interested in adopting a pet — or just gazing at some lovable pups? There are dozens of darling dogs up for adoption at animal shelters in and around Cincinnati.

Animal shelters work hard to care for unhoused pets and connect them to loving homes. Hoodline used data from Petfinder to power this roundup of dogs currently available for adoption.

Hoodline offers data-driven analysis of local happenings and trends across cities. Details like pet availability, training, vaccinations and other features are based on data provided by Petfinder and may be subject to change; contact the shelter for the latest information.

Iris, Labrador retriever mix

Iris is a charming female Labrador retriever mix in the care of Louie's Legacy Animal Rescue.

Her vaccinations are already up to date, and she's been spayed. She has mastered her house-training etiquette.

Contact Louie's Legacy Animal Rescue for information about Iris's compatibility with kids and other pets.

What my friends at Louie's Legacy Animal Rescue think of me:

Iris is a 1.5-year-old lab mix who is looking for a lap to sit on! She loves all the attention and cuddling that you can give her and is ready to snuggle anytime you are. She is as sweet as can be and loves absolutely everyone. She is great with other dogs, cats and kids. Iris has not met anyone she isn't instantly best friends with! She loves running and playing with her foster sister and then taking a nice nap cuddled up next to her people.

Tim, boxer mix

Tim is a total sweetheart! He's a male boxer mix being kept at Louie's Legacy Animal Rescue.

Tim is the life of the party — he gets along well with other dogs.

He's already vaccinated, and he's been neutered. He has mastered his house-training etiquette.

Tim's caretakers say:

Tim is a 3.5-year-old boxer mix who weighs around 34 pounds. He loves playing fetch and chewing on antlers. He is great on a leash and enjoys walks with or without other dogs. He is housebroken and crate trained. He is being fostered with dogs bigger than him and does really well. He has no problem letting them know when he is done playing. He likes to chase cats, but isn't aggressive toward them. Tim also enjoys car rides and will do anything for a treat!

Stella, Labrador retriever and pit bull terrier mix

Stella is a total sweetheart! She's a female Labrador retriever and pit bull terrier mix currently housed at Louie's Legacy Animal Rescue.

She's mastered her house-training etiquette. She's vaccinated, and she's been spayed.

Stella is a social animal — she's happy to keep company with other dogs!

Notes from Stella's caretakers:

My name is Stella and I am an 18-month-old Lab/pit mix puppy, weighing about 60 pounds, who loves to play! I enjoy fetch, tug, and soccer. Once I find my person, I have uncontrollable booty wiggles when I see them, as well as a big smile! I am completely house and crate trained and I  have not had any accidents. I am working on my puppy tendencies of jumping up on people, but I don’t quite have it down yet, so I would do best in a home without small children.

Tilly, chihuahua and dachshund mix

Tilly is a female chihuahua and dachshund mix currently housed at Louie's Legacy Animal Rescue.

She's mastered her house-training etiquette. She has all of her shots, and she's been spayed.

Tilly is a social animal; she loves other dogs.

Tilly's caretakers say:

Tilly came into rescue oh-so pregnant and we realized something was wrong when she spiked a fever. After a C-section, Tilly’s babies had died in the womb and caused her to get really sick! We provided her with all the love and care that she needed and now she is finally ready to find her forever home. She is a 3-year-old chi/dachshund mix and weighs about 14 pounds. She is a professional lap dog and loves to be around other dogs.

Zeke, dachshund

Lovable Zeke is a male dachshund dog currently housed at Louie's Legacy Animal Rescue.

He is vaccinated, and he's been neutered. He's mastered his house-training etiquette.

Contact Louie's Legacy Animal Rescue for information about Zeke's compatibility with kids and other pets.

From Zeke's caretaker:

Zeke is an 8-year-old, very handsome black/tan, 25-pound dachshund. Zeke came to Louie's Legacy when his longtime owners could no longer care for him. Zeke is your typical dachshund, with very common dachshund tendencies. He can be stubborn and vocal. Foster mom says he will bark at outside noises and will whine when he is not shown enough attention. On the flip side, Zeke will make a very devoted and faithful companion for life! He knows basic commands and is crate and house trained. Zeke would do best in a home where he is the only small dog, and with children that are older, responsible and know boundaries.

Rey, chihuahua and Jack Russell terrier mix

Darling Rey is a female chihuahua and Jack Russell terrier mix in the care of Louie's Legacy Animal Rescue.

She still needs some guidance on proper house-training. She is vaccinated, and she's been spayed.

Contact Louie's Legacy Animal Rescue for information about Rey's compatibility with kids and other pets.

Notes from Rey's friends:

Rey is a 6-month old chi/Jack Russell terrier mix. She weighs in at five pounds. Rey is fostered with her brother, Finn. She does great in her crate at night and while her foster family is at work. She is working on only going potty outside, but if she does go inside, it's always on a potty pad. Rey loves to play with her family and with her brother. She loves her stuffed animals and her rope bone. When she gets tired, she loves to curl up with her foster family and/or her brother Finn. She is a sweet, friendly and charismatic puppy, who loves belly rubs and loves to snuggle.
