June 2019 Meet the Astronomer

From the event description:

How is throwing a ball to your friend in the backyard related to the discovery of supermassive black holes, planets orbiting alien stars, the existence of dark matter and the ultimate fate of our universe? The answer is gravity. At "How Gravity Connects Us to the Cosmos," Jonathan Bird, a Stevenson fellow for astrophysics at Vanderbilt University, will show that gravity operates the same way on the playground and across the universe and how this special fact has helped us figure out what the Cosmos is made of and what we hope to find out next. Telescope viewings follow when weather permits.

When: Thursday, June 20, 7-9 p.m.
Where: Vanderbilt Dyer Observatory, 1000 Oman Drive
Admission: $5
