Want the intel on New York City's buzziest local spots?
We took a data-driven look at the question, using Yelp to discover which local businesses have been in the limelight this month.
To find out who made the list, we looked at New York City businesses on Yelp by category and counted how many reviews each received. Rather than compare them based on number of reviews alone, we calculated a percentage increase in reviews over the past month and tracked businesses that consistently increased their volume of reviews to identify statistically significant outliers compared to past performance.
Read on to see which spots are riding a trend, right now.
Tiger Sugar

Open since May, this spot to score bubble tea and desserts is trending compared to other businesses categorized as "Desserts" on Yelp.
Citywide, dessert spots saw a median 2% increase in new reviews over the past month, but Tiger Sugar saw a dramatic 295.7% increase, maintaining a superior four-star rating throughout.
It's not the only trending outlier in the dessert category: Proof Coffee Roasters has seen a 22% increase in reviews.
Located at 4010 Main St., Suite A, in Flushing, Tiger Sugar sells a signature milk tea drink loaded with boba, laced with brown sugar and topped with cream mousse. With shops across Asia, this is the Taiwanese chain's first location in North America.
The Cabin NYC

The East Village's The Cabin NYC is also making waves. Open since January at 205 E. Fourth St. (between Avenue A and Avenue B), the cocktail bar and New American spot — which also serves brunch on the weekends — has seen a 33.3% bump in new reviews over the last month, compared to a median review increase of 2.1% for all businesses tagged "American (New)" on Yelp. Moreover, on a month-to-month basis The Cabin NYC's review count increased by more than 350%.
The Cabin NYC offers comfort food with a gastropub twist. Try a charred Caesar salad, bone marrow on toast or a charcuterie and cheese board. To drink, there are plenty of classic cocktails and original creations, too, like the Cabin Margarita, made with Aperol and muddled cucumber. Over the past month, The Cabin NYC has maintained a strong four-star rating among Yelpers.
Au Cheval Diner

Open since March, this is trending compared to other businesses categorized as "Diners" on Yelp.
Citywide, businesses tagged "Diners" saw a median 1.7% increase in new reviews over the past month, but Au Cheval Diner saw a 24% increase, maintaining a superior four-star rating throughout.
Located at 33 Cortlandt Alley (between Walker and Canal streets) in Chinatown, this first New York City location of the Chicago burger bar serves a signature cheeseburger topped with bacon and a fried egg "à cheval." The menu also features classic cocktails, draft beer and wine and gastropub fare like honey-fried chicken, prime rib sandwiches and fries served with garlic aioli.
Altesi Downtown

Is SoHo's Altesi Downtown on your radar? According to Yelp review data, the Italian spot is seeing plenty of action.
While businesses categorized as "Italian" on Yelp increased their media new review count by 2.2% over the past month, Altesi Downtown nabbed a 25% increase in reviews within that time frame, maintaining a convincing four-star rating.
Located at 200 Spring St. (between Thompson and Sullivan streets), Altesi Downtown is open for lunch and dinner daily and offers authentic Italian favorites like sauteed branzino, fried calamari, meatballs and homemade pizza and pasta. Weekdays, stop in for the prix fixe lunch special, and on weekends, try the Bottomless Brunch with unlimited brunch cocktails.
