We took a data-driven look at the question, using Yelp to analyze which local businesses have been in the limelight this month.
To find out who made the list, we looked at Portland businesses on Yelp by category and counted how many reviews each received. Rather than compare them based on number of reviews alone, we calculated a percentage increase in reviews over the past month, and tracked businesses that consistently increased their volume of reviews to identify statistically significant outliers compared to past performance.

Hey Love

Open since 2018, this cocktail bar, wine bar and breakfast and brunch spot is trending compared to other businesses categorized as "Cocktail Bars" on Yelp.
Citywide, cocktail bars saw a median 3.5 percent increase in new reviews over the past month, but Hey Love saw a 23.3 percent increase, maintaining a superior 4.5-star rating throughout. Moreover, on a month-to-month basis Hey Love's review count increased by more than 700 percent.

HunnyMilk

Whether or not you've been hearing buzz about Northwest's HunnyMilk, the breakfast and brunch spot, which offers coffee and tea and juices and smoothies, is a hot topic according to Yelp review data.
While businesses categorized as "Breakfast & Brunch" on Yelp saw a median 2.5 percent increase in new reviews over the past month, HunnyMilk bagged an 18.3 percent increase in new reviews within that timeframe, maintaining a convincing four-star rating.
There's more that's trending on Portland's breakfast and brunch scene: Blackheart has seen a 11.1 percent increase in reviews.

Boise's Eem is also making waves. Open since February 2019 at 3808 N. Williams Ave., the popular cocktail bar and Thai spot, which offers barbecue and more, has seen a 20.7 percent bump in new reviews over the last month, compared to a median review increase of 2.7 percent for all businesses tagged "Thai" on Yelp.
Eem offers brisket, cocktails, curry and ribs. Over the past month, it's maintained a solid 4.5-star rating among Yelpers.
