To find out who made the list, we looked at Long Beach businesses on Yelp by category and counted how many reviews each received. Rather than compare them based on number of reviews alone, we calculated a percentage increase in reviews over the past month, and tracked businesses that consistently increased their volume of reviews to identify statistically significant outliers compared to past performance.

Open since June 2019, this cocktail bar and New American spot is trending compared to other businesses categorized as "American (New)" on Yelp.

Citywide, New American spots saw a median 1.6 percent increase in new reviews over the past month, but The 908 saw an imposing 320 percent increase, with a slight downward trend from a five-star rating a month ago to 4.5 stars today.

It's not the only trending outlier in the New American category: The Ordinarie - An American Tavern has seen a 10.7 percent increase in reviews.

While businesses categorized as "Bars" on Yelp saw a median 1.5 percent increase in new reviews over the past month, Next Door bagged a 13.7 percent increase in new reviews within that time frame, maintaining a superior 4.5-star rating. It significantly outperformed the previous month by gaining 5.0 times more reviews than expected based on its past performance.

There's more that's trending on Long Beach's bar scene: El Torito has seen a 4.8 percent increase in reviews.

Broadway, Unit 521 in 2017, increased its new review count by 8.8 percent over the past month, an outlier when compared to the median new review count of 1.8 percent for the Yelp category "American (Traditional)." It outperformed the previous month by gaining 3.3 times more reviews than expected based on past performance.

It's not the only trending outlier in the traditional American category: The Corner 10th has seen a 7.3 percent increase in reviews.
