A new Cuban, Latin American and Cajun/Creole spot has made its debut in the neighborhood. The new arrival to Chelsea, called La Cubana, is located at 408 W. 15th St.
According to La Cubana's website, head chef Carl Ruiz, who also frequently appears on Food Network, designed this new restaurant's menu to "(pay) tribute to his Cuban roots." The restaurant offers elevated takes on Cuban and Caribbean dishes, such as croquetas, seafood salad, roasted pork and ropa vieja in Creole sauce. The drink list features nine signature cocktails. Try a Havana Colada, made with rum, absinthe and coconut cream.
With a five-star rating out of 15 reviews on Yelp so far, La Cubana has already made a good impression.
Eric E., who was among the first Yelpers to review the new spot on June 15, wrote, "We had an amazing dinner tonight at La Cubana, the newly opened home-style Cuban spot created by friend and Food Network celebrity chef Carl Ruiz! Upon entering, you are whisked away to Cuba via the Havana-inspired decor and the sexy, sultry drum beats of Cuban music. "
Yelper Chris L. added, “Best pork chop I've ever been served. Chef Carl has changed my mind about Latin cuisine."
