Jazz flutist, educator, band director and vocalist Amber Underwood, who is playing at the Kemper Museum of Contemporary Art on Friday, is a native of Kansas City and has been entertaining and performing music since the age of 8. In 2014 the Amber Underwood Project was formed with the mission to showcase the rich tones of the flute with a modern and fresh take on smooth jazz and R&B sounds.

Artist Louise Bourgeois viewed spiders as fierce, fragile, elegant, patient, hard-working and clever. As part of the exhibition, Lexicon: The Language of Gesture in 25 years at Kemper Museum, the baby spider sculpture, Spider I, by Louise Bourgeois is finally back on view at Kemper Museum. Come celebrate the return of this special sculpture at a party with spider-inspired art activities, books, spider-selfies and a scavenger hunt.

In 1957, Soviet scientists sent the first living thing into space – a stray dog. MUTTNIK is a "one dog play" that draws from historical events to create a story of purpose, life, and death all told by a Russian pup.
